Our Society was founded in Halifax, Nova Scotia, in 1786, as a social and charitable institution for the purpose of honouring the patron saint of England, St George, celebrating English culture and traditions and to assist English men and women in distress in Halifax.
Today, the aim of the Society is to celebrate English heritage and customs, to further an understanding of the contribution they made to the development of Canadian society and to contribute to smaller charities and worthwhile causes in Halifax.
Membership is open to anyone, regardless of his or her nationality or race, who supports the objectives of the Society.
